VPN for iPhone in 2026: Which App to Choose — ProxysVPN, INCY and Happ Compared
Short answer: on an iPhone in 2026 start with our own app, ProxysVPN: it installs through TestFlight with whatever Apple ID you already have and signs in with an eight-character code, so there is no long link to copy. INCY and Happ are the reserve: they connect with a subscription link, neither is in the Russian App Store (Happ since 2026, INCY since 27 October 2026), both are in other countries' storefronts, and an already installed INCY keeps working without updates. Below: a comparison, what to check when choosing, the install and what to do if it does not work.
VPN apps for iPhone compared
| App | Where to get it | How it connects | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| ProxysVPN (ours) | TestFlight, any Apple ID region | 8-character code from the dashboard | Test version; not on the App Store yet |
| INCY | App Store of other countries (removed from the Russian one on 27.10.2026) | Subscription link or QR code | Third-party app: updates come from its developers |
| Happ | App Store outside Russia | Subscription link or QR code | Not listed in the Russian storefront |
| v2RayTun, Streisand | App Store outside Russia | Subscription link | A Russian Apple ID needs a region change |
What matters in an iPhone VPN app
- Where it is listed. An app that is missing from your storefront gets no updates, and after a reinstall you cannot get it back without changing region. Happ was pulled from the Russian storefront in August 2026 and INCY on 27 October 2026; TestFlight does not depend on the region.
- How the subscription gets in. A link close to a hundred characters long is easy to paste into the wrong place. ProxysVPN signs in with a code instead: eight characters, valid for 10 minutes, one use — and the app fetches the server list itself.
- Protocols. The first row of the country list is WataFast, the automatic mode: it picks the country and the protocol by itself and brings the connection back by itself if it drops. Underneath run VLESS Reality, XHTTP and Hysteria2.
- In Russia or abroad. The app asks “Where are you?” and makes its own guess. With “I am in Russia”, Russian sites, banks and government services open directly; with “I am abroad”, all traffic goes through the VPN, Russian sites included. Sites you add to “Always direct” never go through the tunnel.
- If the tunnel drops. The “Block the internet if the VPN drops” switch keeps traffic from leaving outside the tunnel while the connection recovers.
- Ads and trackers. The “Block ads and trackers” switch cuts them off before they load, and the test version has a separate content blocker for Safari (iOS 17 and later).
A free VPN for iPhone: what you pay with
The client app is often free: Happ, INCY and other open-source clients contain no servers and sell nothing. Servers are what costs money. Free servers live on advertising, on selling data about your traffic or on reselling your connection — and the first thing they limit is what you installed them for. The mechanism, with examples, is in how free VPNs make money.
How to install ProxysVPN on an iPhone through TestFlight
- 1Install TestFlight from the App Store, Apple's free app. You do not need to change your Apple ID region for it.
- 2On the iPhone, open the ProxysVPN invitation in TestFlight and tap “Accept”, then “Install”.
- 3Get a sign-in code: in your dashboard, open the device card and press “Code for the app”. The eight-character code is valid for 10 minutes and works once. No account yet? Signing up takes a minute with an email address; Telegram is not needed.
- 4Open ProxysVPN, tap “Sign in with a code from your account” and enter the code.
- 5When iOS asks whether to add a VPN configuration, tap “Allow”. From then on it is one connect button.
- 6Check on the leak test page: the address should change to the server's; the country in third-party databases may differ from the location you picked.

What it costs
The app itself is free; what you pay for is the subscription: $1.50 per device per month, taken from your balance, with nothing charged to your card automatically. Top-ups start at $5. An account opened on the Russian site is priced in roubles instead: an account keeps the currency it was opened in, whatever card tops it up. One subscription link is one device and one app. If this link was in Happ or INCY, signing in with the code moves it to ProxysVPN, and the old app will say the link is taken — that is expected. An iPhone and an iPad are two devices: each has its own code, while the TestFlight invitation is shared.
If it does not work
- The code is rejected. It is valid for 10 minutes and works once — get a new one from the device card.
- The app says the link is taken. ProxysVPN with this link is already on another device. In the dashboard: device card → ⋯ → “Reset device binding”, then sign in with a new code.
- The VPN turns on and goes off at once. Look for other VPN configurations: Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → VPN. Keep ProxysVPN and turn off “Connect On Demand” for the rest.
- Connected, but nothing loads. Step by step in VPN connected but no internet; what changed with iOS 26 is in VPN not working on iPhone or iPad.
- It will not connect. In INCY or Happ, disconnect, wait a minute and refresh the subscription with the button of two circular arrows (one in INCY): the app may still hold an old server list. Then change the server: Germany, Amsterdam, Britain and France run on VLESS, not on UDP. Avoid the plain “Netherlands” row on an iPhone: it is Hysteria2 over UDP, which is unstable on iPhone. “Netherlands · XHTTP” is fine.
- Date and time. Check that they are set automatically on the iPhone: with a wrong clock the TLS handshake fails.
- The reserve is INCY with a subscription link: how to add a subscription to INCY. If you have already signed in to ProxysVPN on this iPhone, reset the binding first. For an Apple TV there is a separate guide.
Which VPN app is best for iPhone in 2026?
One that is listed in your App Store, connects without hand-made configs, speaks VLESS Reality and lets you choose what goes direct. For our subscription that means ProxysVPN through TestFlight (iOS 16 or later); INCY and Happ work too where your storefront lists them.
Happ is gone from the App Store — what should I install?
It is not in the Russian App Store: it came back on 29 June 2026 as “Happ - Proxy Utility+” and was pulled again in August 2026. Without a region change you can install our ProxysVPN through TestFlight (iOS 16 or later); INCY has not been in the Russian storefront either since 27 October 2026. The genuine Happ is on the US App Store, which needs an Apple ID set to the US region.
Do I need to change my Apple ID region?
No, not for our app: TestFlight installs with any Apple ID. A region change is needed only for an app your storefront does not list, such as INCY (since 27.10.2026) or Happ on a Russian Apple ID.
Is TestFlight safe?
It is Apple's official service: Apple reviews a build for external testers in advance. A test version can have bugs, but it installs and uninstalls like any other app.
What happens after 90 days?
Each TestFlight build runs for up to 90 days. We release new ones more often than that; TestFlight announces a new build and can install it by itself.
Which iPhones does it run on?
iOS 16 or later. The app itself runs on iOS 15, but TestFlight, which installs it, now requires iOS 16; on iOS 15, use INCY or Happ. The Safari content blocker needs iOS 17.
Will the app be on the App Store?
For now it is distributed through TestFlight. When and where it appears on the App Store depends on Apple's review, so we do not promise a date.
Can one subscription run on an iPhone and an iPad?
In turn, yes: before switching devices, reset the binding in the dashboard (device card → ⋯ → “Reset device binding”) and sign in with a new code. On two devices at once you need two codes, that is, two devices in the dashboard.
